The Clothing bank

According to ‘The Big Issue’ as many as 16 million people in the UK could be officially classed as living in poverty by 2023, which is 1 in every 4 people. Because of the rising cost of living, many people are struggling to clothe themselves.

The Clothing Bank was established in January 2020. The founders, Sally & Susan, saw that those struggling to afford these necessities where not receiving the support that they needed and decided to take matters into their own hands.

They began by setting up a couple local drop off points and created a Facebook page. The requests came piling in and they soon found that more space was needed to expand the charity. So, the fundraising began. In August 2020 they managed to raise enough funds to renovate an outbuilding in their garden. This space allowed for the charity to grow and reach people further afield. Fast forward to today, the ongoing support from volunteers has enabled The Clothing Bank to support over 5,000 people.

With referrals increasing every day, it is now more important than ever for us to consider what we do with our unused clothes. The Clothing Bank continues to change people’s lives for the better and it wouldn’t be possible without the help from our local community.

Here at ACS we strive to help those in our local community in any way we can. We therefore partnered with The Clothing Bank this year and became a drop-off point for donations. We deliver donations on a monthly basis, with the amount growing each time. All donations are greatly appreciated no matter how big or small. As long as they are clean and in good condition, we will take them. All donations can be brought to our reception, and we will take it from there!

We have witnessed the hard work this amazing charity does and what a difference every single donation, whether monetary or clothing make to them and the people they support. Because of this, in July we have decided to make The Clothing Bank our partnered charity for the remainder of 2022. We have agreed to donate a set amount of money that the ACS Social Enterprise raises each month directly to them and their amazing work.

The remaining amount we raise will still be used to support local charities and good causes.

If you would like to support The Clothing Bank too, you can drop off any donations at our ACS Head Office in Baildon or even better contact them directly to find out how you can become a partner.
