Our new dedicated Impact team met for the second time on Wednesday 24th February. Attending fortnightly meetings, our innovative team of “Impact Champions” have been tasked with implementing schemes and making improvements across the business with the aim of positively impacting not just our people, but our customers, our suppliers, our local community, the charities we work with and the environment. The team meets to discuss ideas and formulate plans of how to improve our business and its positive effects on all the stakeholders mentioned above. In the initial meeting all members outlined what they wanted the business to achieve and discussed numerous projects of varying sizes.
ACS continuously look for opportunities to support our local community with volunteering projects as well as having taken on over 25 local apprentices since our apprenticeship scheme began in 2015. However, we want to have even more of an impact and will be particularly looking at ways in which we can support young people, charities and local businesses this year. We have just filled two positions for apprenticeship placements with Shipley College and will be advertising for more apprentices later in the year.
As part of an ongoing commitment to providing our customers sustainable business solutions we want to lead by example with our environmental policy. We are proud to be called a certified Carbon Neutral company and are considering more ways that we can make a positive impact on our environment. Just a few of the schemes that our Impact Champions are planning on carrying out include regular meat-free days (having vegetarian lunches in the office), litter picking around Baildon and swapping all company cars to electric over the next few years. We are also looking into the installation of solar panels for our roof.
The meeting gave one of our customer service agents, Becky, the chance to voice one of her ideas that would streamline queries for our customers. As a result of the Impact Team meeting, her idea was implemented instantaneously.
As well as considering ways in which we can make a difference to our wide customer database, the team will be looking at ways in which ACS can support local businesses and make a difference to their processes. For example, the logistics team are currently considering how we can add value to our customers that we deliver goods to locally from our on-site warehouse and we are implementing a more advanced online chat system to streamline the customer journey post-purchase.
Known for our employee appreciation, ACS are proud to announce another way of thanking our employees to add to our repertoire. As of Monday 1 st March, all employees were awarded ACS Support Local cards. These cards show ACS supporting local businesses with a scheme that sees ACS investing in these businesses. Our first ACS Support Local business is The Bothy coffee shop in Shipley. Employees are entitled to daily free hot drinks from the café and are being encouraged to purchase some of their locally sourced quality food as they claim their drinks.
We already work closely with our suppliers, but we want to enhance our relationships and do more business face-to-face (when things return to normal). We will be inviting our partners into our offices and attending visits at their workplaces, including regular trips to our manufacturing partners to get more of an understanding for how the products we sell work.
Since we launched our charity partnership scheme in 2012, we have raised over £115,000 for various charities. Now we are working on ways to help more local charities and good causes. Keep your eyes peeled for more news on this exciting new venture.
