We are 10!

Our tenth birthday celebration was a sight to behold.

After six months of hard work from the Marketing team and me, the night of our 10th birthday party finally arrived. Held at Cardamom Black restaurant in Harrogate the night was a success with plenty of food, entertainment, laughter and booze!

The venue is a beautiful former theatre and is owned by one of our own ACS’ers and her new husband.

The night started with a red carpet arrival and guests were greeted by a fire performer, stilts walkers and a harpist playing classic house music.

Once the guests entered the main room they were greeted by some more performers courtesy of Madam Mango – a contortionist and an ambient hula hooper with LED hoops.

The room itself was a sight to behold. To mark the tenth birthday of course we needed a big “10” so we hired some amazing LED lights.

The theme was black and gold so that’s how the tables were decorated. Each table had a framed photograph on it and the table names were named according to the photograph.

Each of our colleagues arrived at their tables to find a tote bag with badges, pencils, sweets and a thank you card inside hand written by the Managing Director. We thought that this was a really lovely personal touch from Mike, who wrote the cards with his new favourite fountain pen.

Once everyone was seated and had found their bags they were thanked for their loyalty to the company by the Managing Director and then surprised by some impressive indoor fireworks to mark the beginning of the night.

Shortly after that whilst the delicious sharing starters were being served on slate three-tier stand with sparklers the guests were surprised again by a wonderful singer. Emma, a super-talented Amy Winehouse tribute act wowed us all with some beautiful renditions of Winehouse’s classics. Her voice is uncannily similar and what an absolutely fantastic booking she was, very theatrical and pitch-perfect.

Emma came out for another set whilst our mains arrived and sang songs from 2008, including “Mercy” by Duffy, “Poker face” by Lady Gaga and “Sex on fire” by Kings of Leon. And no, I can’t believe they are a decade old either.

The Indian curries and sundries were so delicious my mouth is watering at the thought of them now!

Once everybody had finished with their main courses it was time for the Golden Quill awards where 10 awards were given out to our ACS’ers. Awards such as “Most Stylish”, “Funniest person” and “Rising Star” were all voted for by their colleagues last week as the shortlist was announced and put to an anonymous vote.

More fireworks followed with the announcement of the dessert room opening. 700 desserts (yes you read that right) including hand dipped chocolates and macarons we displayed in a heavenly fashion and were surrounded by more photos of our ACS’ers throughout the years.

And then the dancing! I could finally relax after coordinating the event so all that’s left was to dance- luckily we provided flip flops to spare the painful feet. And boy, did we dance!
